Title: Services not showing up outside LAN
Post by: Stone Linton on October 03, 2001, 07:56:05 AM
I recently installed SME v5.  I'm using Cox Cable and everything seems to work fine internally.  I've redirected my DNS setting so my domain name is properly resolved.  Couldn't get Cox to assign my external address, so I set it up as a static address.  I have full connectivity from my server out and all internal workstation.

I can ping my server from the out side.  The name is resolved to the correct IP.  But now web site comes up.  When I scan the IP for services, only FTP shows up.  But on a scan of the internal interface, I see FTP, HTTP, IMAP, SMTP, and POP.

When the server boots, it shows all services as successfully loading.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you're current settings and prefences are, but by default, services such as POP, IMAP, LDAP etc are restricted to internal network use only (for security reasons).

Should you wish to enable these services to the outside would, you can make the appropriate changes through the web admin interface.

Regards,
Luke

Except I don't have HTTP port visible or availible?  I haven't seen an option to deactivate this previously.  I do have the service-console installed and the httpd-service is marked as active.

Luke's mentioned why POP/IMAP might not be visible from the outside.  It's possible that your ISP is blocking http and smtp--in fact, given that it's cable service, I'd bet on it.
