Can anyone tell me what should be put in the 'Root folder path' setting in Outlook and/or Outlook Express?
Does anyone have instructions/tips/hints on setting up Outlook/Outlook Express in IMAP mode to e-smith/SME mail server?
I know there seems to be several threads on this issue, but is there a general agreement about how to setup and deal with what appears to be IMAP issues only? Based on my experience POP3 works fine.
Any and all hints/tips/discussion on this matter would be welcome!
Thanks,
Patrick

Don't know about Outlook Express, but with Lookout I enter "Mail/" (without the quotes). I have not followed Darrell's HOWTO on changing the folder locations. It seems to work this way, so I'm not planning on changing it.
As to more general tips, check out the MSKB articles I referenced in another thread recently: Q197636 and Q198854. The latter article tells how to get Outlook to save sent messages to an IMAP folder (Express will do this without a problem): http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q198/8/54.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=imap&rnk=16&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=OUT2K

Dan,
Thank you for the quick response to my post, and your informative tips for help.
I used your example, and setup the Outlook Express root folder location to "mail/" like you said, but get the following error:
CREATE failed: Can't create mailbox mail/: /home/e-smith/files/users/marnold/mail/ File exists
Configuration:
Account: Bent Creek Mail Server
Server: 192.168.1.1
User name: marnold
Protocol: IMAP
Port: 143
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 800cccd2
What's strange is this - when I leave the root folder path blank it 'seems' to work fine when refreshing the list of IMAP folders. I have the following folders showing: Inbox, Sent-Items, Drafts.
I'm not sure what you or the others could add to this, but I'm sure confused at this point. :(
Thanks again,
Patrick

I think you'll find your problem is that you should be using "Mail" not "mail" Note the capitalisation - Linux, unlike Windoze, is case sensitive on filenames)

I too get the same message. I'm looking for a easy way that my users can access messages stored in folders from multi clients. On the private net, Outlook Express is used (ver 6), and remotly webmail would be used. When using Outlook Express, the user has to click the IMAP Folders button, select the folder they want, and then click the Go To button. I'd like to have the folders show up with out the knuckly drill by the users each time.
CREATE failed: Can't create mailbox /Mail/:
