Hi
I just installed SMEV5 and im having problems with the server recognising my NIC
it is a D-Link DFE-530TX, how do i configure it to be a local ethernet adapter?
also would win2k recognise SME as a dhcp server and get its local ip or would i have to change anything?
thanks for the help

Well, the DFE-530TX+ (note the plus) uses the rtl8139 driver, and works fine on my system. I don't know, though, about the TX (non-plus). From what I can see at http://www.scyld.com/network/ethercard.html, your card should use the via-rhine driver.
Yes, Win2k recognizes SME as a DHCP server--at least, my installation does.

thanks for the prompt reply
I tried installing the via-rhine driver from the config menu and restarted my server but still no luck. I cant see it ping from my windows pc
is there any way to see if the driver is loaded working?
the hub doesnt seem to show any lights etc for the SME to say its connected/workin but does light up for the windows pc
any ideas
thanks

You could try from the command prompt.
1. Log in as root.
2. use lsmod to list loaded modules. If you don't see the name of your NIC module, then it is not loaded (incorrect module selected perhaps ??)
3. If module name is listed, use ifconfig to see if eth0 is running. If not, check /var/log/messages to see if you can find a log entry that might tell you why eth0 did not start
4. If ifconfig shows eth0 as apparently working, check cables, hubs, etc.
Hope this helps.
