Title: Internet and Mail traffic
Post by: Hennie on October 08, 2001, 04:43:37 PM
Is there any way or software to check/monitor what is causing current IP traffic on
e-smith? I need to know if somebody on my network is clogging my leased line
who it is at that particular moment or if it is mail. Can anyone please help?

I've found NetWatch to be absolutely invaluable for gathering real time traffic statistics on Linux based systems. I haven't actually run it on an SME box yet as I have a laptop dedicated to running network analysis tools at work (mostly chugging through Ethereal logs :)

Check out http://www.slctech.org/~mackay/netwatch.html and grab the RPM and see what you can do. Unfortunately the documentation is a little thin on the ground to say the least, so experimentation is the key here.

Hope this helps,
Gary
