Title: SME in PDC Vs Windows XP
Post by: Jean-Philippe on October 27, 2001, 04:03:39 PM
Hi there,
Thanks to Dan Brown's Howto I managed to set my SME Server in PDC and everything goes fine with all my Windows 2000 computers. The problem I'm facing now is that one of my clients is now running Windows XP Pro (looser !!!) I can connect to the PDC using my Samba root password but each time I want to logon as a user, XP says "Can't log onto the network, you PDC must be misconfigured..." Did I miss something or XP is said to run on a NT engine : it should be the same as 2000, nah !? Shall I trash this OS !? :-)))

Search though the list for WinXP and the answers there...

(hint: it's common enough an occurence that the answer is at the bottom of the how-to)

Yes, this problem has been solved.  Have a look at the updated HowTo:

http://www.myezserver.com/docs/mitel/samba-upgrade-howto.html

Specifically, there's a section that details certain registry settings that need to be modified in WinXP

Very confusing to have 2 How-To's.

Well, the idea is to eventually have a blade (hopefully from Mitel) that will take care of this all automatically.  At that point, all the HOWTOs will become superfluous.  Darrell's document is based on mine, but contains some updates, and has packaged the template changes into an RPM to simplify things.
