Does the Highpoint HPT370A Raid-Controller work with E-smith 4 or 5 because someone offered me one very cheap but I can't figure out if it will work.
It seems to be working with RH 7.0 and 7.1
Looking forward to your reply,
Best regards.

Hi Paul,
I have used one before under ESSG 4.1.2 (because it had RH 7.0 drivers). Errr... Actually, it was an Adaptec 1200A controller which uses the same chip (but the Highpoint driver works with it with no obvious problems :) ).
SME 5 is another story because of kernel version mismatch. All RH7.1 CDs I have appear to use kernel 2.4.x while SME 5 uses 2.2.19-17 which is supposed to be RH 7.1 as well ??? I think Darrell or someone else posted not long ago a howto with links to get the necessary kernel sources and compiler libs. You might (or maybe not ?? ) have to try and recompile a driver for SME5 if you can get the necessary sources.

You might want to look at www.axonlinux.org. It had 4.1.2 running on a 2.4 kernel, so you may be able to get your HighPoint working with it.

I started playing around with the highpoint but my system wouldn't boot with the raid-controller in a PCI slot, so first I'll have to figure out why it won't boot.
