I've recently changed my backup MX provider who uses an ETRN compatible server, however, I seem to be having problems getting SME v5 to send the ETRN requests properly.
I've set SME to send the requests hourly for all three timeslots, but on the time, the only log entries I get are as follows...
Nov 6 14:00:00 gw su(pam_unix)[21744]: session opened for user qmailr by (uid=0)
Nov 6 14:00:00 gw su(pam_unix)[21744]: session closed for user qmailr
No ETRN requests are being received at my backup mail server. If I run /etc/fetchmail, requests are sent properly. My immediate fix was to alter the qmail command line in /etc/startmail to simply run /etc/fetchmail in the template. I know this isn't the ideal solution, but until I can find out what's causing the problem in the first place, it works...
Any ideas? Anyone suggest where else to look and what to look for?

Ask Charlie Brady (charlieb@e-smith.com) about this one. The fix is simple enough, but unfortunately I've lost it.

I've installed SME 4.1.2 instead of SME 5.0 and everything is working just fine.
Happy New year

Did you ask Charlie about the fix to this problem? Like I said, the fix is *really* easy, I've just lost the reply describing the fix to the problem.
SMEv5.1 will fix this when it's released. It's currently in beta, though I have no idea when it'll be ready for release.

Yes I've ask Charlie, but he didn't respond (yet)
