Title: Mapping a network drive
Post by: Rob Flodine on January 17, 2001, 02:27:57 AM
We need to map a network drive directly, that is not simply an ibay/files. but preferably H: (where H: takes us directly to ibay/files/data). This is not supported directly by esmith so can anyone help with a work around with config files etc.
Thanks
Rob

I have an e-smith server that I use as a file server. I have several drives mapped. I use the map drive function from the
win9X boxes. I have a common log-on user name that creates a file accessable to all users (I run a small LAN at home). I made a new folder in that file to hold the text doc.s from word97. When I mapped the drive, I targeted the folder I made. This became a drive on the win9X box. i.e. drive h:\larry-server\henry\text files
larry-server   name of the server
henry          username and file on e-smith box

I pointed the file location in word97 to drive h and I get the text files.

I hope this helps.
