Title: bounced email
Post by: Greg Zartman on November 13, 2001, 02:06:39 AM
I've been getting several email messages a day from my mail server with the following message:
I tried to deliver a bounce message to this address, but the bounce bounced!

Does anyone know what this means?

Thank you.

Regards,

I had these when I entered a domain name with no dots in the server console. There must be a script that assumes that the domain has a dot in it.

If this doesn't fix your problem you could try posting a copy of one of the bounced emails here.

I think this is caused by spam sent to an invalid user at your domain.  The reply-to address is incorrect, so when your server tries to bounce it, it bounces back....

I had a similar problem once. I connected to my remote pop-box (ISP) via telnet and deleted it from there....

Hope it helps,

Steve,

Yes, I think this is a spam issue.  My office has just been blasted with spam since pulling out email server in house.  It's starting to get out of hand
