Title: user-manager from outside net
Post by: Jeff Coleman on November 21, 2001, 06:14:48 PM
Howdy,

Just installed the contirb rpms "user-manager" and "vacation" and they work fine from inside the net.  Anyone know of a way to allow web access to these modules from outside the local net?

Usage is to give my roaming users access to their panels from the road.

Thanks - jeff

I ran into the same problem. Some of my external users have static IPs so the following works, but it is intended as more of a starting point then a complete solution.

If you setup remote web administration as outlined in
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/remote-mgr-access-howto.html
, you(or your users) will also be able to use the user manager from the same external IP's as you allow for remote web administration. The caveat is that you decrease the security by allowing anyone from the allowed IP's the chance to try and crack you admin password.

I'd be interested if anyone extends this to a better solution!
