Title: Interactive Startup
Post by: Al Church on December 03, 2001, 06:44:41 AM
Is there an interactive startup for e-smith 5.0 (Update 2)?
When booting up my box hangs during the IPSEC initialization. I can't get to a prompt or anything and I dont know how to "turn off" the IPSEC initiallization.

Any suggestions to get my e-smith box started again?

thanks

I don't know what happened. But it is now working. I let my box sit there and went to another location to get the boot disk and backup (I keep them off site), and when I got back 45 minutes later, it had booted up. I can't find anything in the logs, so I don't know what happened.

I'd guess that the machine is a slow/old machine. IPSEC had to generate encryption keys when it starts up and this can take a while (ie, a few minutes) on a slow machine.

PS: From memory, type ctrl-X at the graphical e-smith startup screen to get a prompt and then type "esmith single" to boot linux in single user mode.

PPS: If you remove the file /boot/e-smith.pcx you won't get the graphical startup screen at all.
