I don't know when this problem started as I have not had to create an Ibay since upgrading to SME V5 and update 3.
I create an Ibay and set up password as below:
Information bay name: test1
Brief description: test ibay
Group: Everyone
User access via file sharing or user ftp: Write = Group, Read = Everyone (*)
Public access via web or anonymous ftp:Entire Internet (no password required)
Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI): Disabled
I can access the Ibay website via the internet but not via FTP. When I check the logs I find that the FTP access has been denied because the ibay name has been added to the FTPUSER file. I checked the FTPUSER file and the name was on it.
When I set up the Ibay with
Public access via web or anonymous ftp:Entire Internet (password required)
as expected I can only access the Ibay from the web with user authentication BUT I can access the Ibay via FTP. The Ibay name is no longer in the FTPUSER file.
Existing Ibays are fine.
Anyone else seen a similar problem??.
I will copy this to bug@e-smith.org

Did you allow FTP access to your server?

Similar problem...I beleive after SME V5 update3.
I can access the Ibay via ftp but not the website via the internet! Before, both ways were working fine.
Any ideas?

I saw the same problem on an SME v5 update3 (which was an upgrade from e-smith 4.1). In testing, I turned on private telnet, and the users were magically removed from the /etc/ftpusers file.
But, the ftp server was turned off for some reason in the process. (Another bug.)
So, I turned the telnet server back off, and the users were still out of the /etc/ftpusers file so they could then login.
Anyway, I'm glad to find simple (but random) work-around to a bug I hope e-smith knows about...
