Post by: judy on December 23, 2001, 01:55:36 AM
Hi all,

i want to connect a e-smith 4.1 server via PPTP in our lan to use the smtp server:
e-smith(192.168.8.10)----router(192.168.8.254)
                                             (10.0.0.254)-----winxp-box(10.0.0.10)
the problem is that i can“t connect:
Dec 19 06:23:25 node01 pptpd[14737]: Error reading from pppd: Input/output error
Dec 19 06:23:25 node01 pptpd[14737]: CTRL: GRE read or PTY write failed (gre,pty)=(6,5)

is there everywhere a howto how to connect an e-smith server via pptp?

I don't know of a specific How-To for Mitel, but I used this site and the instructions worked well for several users at my company:

http://www.real-time.com/Customer_Support/PPTP_Config/Windows_ME_PPTP/windows_me_pptp.html

The only thing I would add is the use of DUN 1.4 if the OS is Win9x.  DUN 1.3 is very, very flakey when connecting to SME (and probably others).  1.4 also includes 128 bit encryption built in, lack of 128 bit is probably the most common problem I have seen, and the error messages from Windows are not clear that is the problem.

I would also recommend (though far from required)  disabling "use default route on remote network".

Otherwise the instructions on that site are clear and well written and work well for e-smith.  Includes instructions for most flavors of Winows.
