Title: Network shows HD size less than installed
Post by: Dave Reinhardt on December 27, 2001, 10:23:57 PM
March Mintel Network drive shows HD size less than installed.
There are two 1.2G HD installed with software RAID 1, but they show up as total size 667MB  free space 311MB
Does this mean that the install did a software RAID on the one drive?

First, be aware that part of the drive is used for other things, and separate partitions are used for those.  In particular, there's a boot partition of about 15 MB, and a swap partition of (usually) 256 MB.  This may account for the difference you're seeing.

Second, HDD manufacturers call a GB 10^9 bytes (1 billion), while OSs usually call it 2^30 bytes (1.07 billion).  This will also account for a bit of difference.

A fdisk of the 2 drives shows a small Non-DOS 16% and a EXT DOS 84% partition on each drive.
Is there any other way to see this info?

Hi,

You could use Partition Magic (www.powerquest.com)

This will give you a graphical view of your HDD Partitions.

Kind Regards,
Rob.
