Title: Problem: Backup to large
Post by: Judy Morgann on January 04, 2002, 09:40:13 PM
Hi all,

i have a big problem with the e-smith backup from the management website. The whole e-smith server is on an 60GB disk, but i only have a 24GB HP DAT.
The backup starts, but when the first tape is full backup is canceld.
Is there a way about notification too replace the first tape with the second, third..
Or is there another backup tool that can i use with e-smith and that can handle multiple tape volumes?

tia and happy weekend
judy

Have a look at http://www.arkeia.com/

They have a really neat backup program that you can run from a GUI on you client.  Their Linux Server is free and you can also add 2 clients besides the server.  It does support multiple tapes and it quite nice on a restore.  I have been using it for quite some time.  I've finally got it to work (sort of) with the backup routine that comes with SME.  If I every get it worked out so that it works completely then I will post a howto.

If you want a fully automated backup you need a tape subsystem wich can handle all the data of your harddisk. You can also use a tape juggler but these will cost you lots of money........

Arkeia is a great tool.  If you get it working with SME please let us know.
