Title: Mail server and dynamic DNS ?
Post by: Steve L. on January 07, 2002, 06:35:33 PM
I just got cable modem access w/dynamic IP and want to run Web and Mail servers.

After searching the forums, I used a post that Dan Brown actually answerd for me some time back. At that time I used a dial up account to serve mail and web.

For the moment web works but mail is not. I can't seem to figure out the relationship between Dyndns.org and Zoneedit.

I have an active dyndns account which is mydomain.dyndns.org. At Zoneedit I have an account for mydomain.com  minus the dyndns.org part. At Zoneedit I publish CNAME records for the long mydomain.dyndns.org to answer to mydomain.com, also set mail forwards to forward *@mydomain.com to *@mydomain.dyndns.org.

The forwards fails, however mail sent to *@mydomain.dyndns.org works great. Do I need to set MX records at either place?

Can any shed some light on this or just point me to the docs I failed to find?

Have you tried to leave the *@ part off, make it: mydomain.com?
