Post by: Alexander on January 19, 2002, 08:12:19 PM
How can I add X-window capabilities to SME 5.0 ?
I plan to use gnome interface with some softwares I need to install.

I search one or few rpms for easy installation on SME

Thanks for your infos

This feature has been discussed before.

Why X ?

this is a server? Do you want to use it as a workstation?

If you want X window system then install redhat not e-smith.

There is no easy way to do this, as it will necessarily involve several RPMs (but if you want to try, pick up a CD of the appropriate version of RedHat and go to town).  I doubt you'll find a how-to, as an X installation is entirely contrary to the intent of the e-smith system.

We did get x running in e-smith v4 but its not worth the bother its a real pain trying to get anything to run. Try Suse or Mandrake  both are great progs for every day desktop use

OK OK

I don't plan to use SME like a desktop machine , therefore my UPS software work only with a gnome interface.
(UPS = Mustek PowerMust 600 VA)
This UPS is not referenced in powstat d and I had headache to configure it manually.

Any idea ?
