Title: Everytime the same stupid question :)
Post by: Brossin Pierrick on January 30, 2002, 01:51:50 PM
Anyone tried to update his 5.0 version to 5.1.2.

Actually I tried to installed 5.1.2 on a P3 500 Mhz with a 20 Gb HD and It crashed (I think) while doing the post configuration thing.
It didnt basically crashed... It only stopped and the HD wasnt doing anythin'....

I'm going to try on my dual P90 tonite...

Thanx

I did the same upgrade last night (on a Celery 366 with a 30 GB drive and 256 MB of RAM - my homenet server), and it went fine.  The post-install, however, did take almost half an hour to run and at one point I thought it had crashed.  But I noticed the drive light was just flickering so I decided to wait it out - in the end all was fine and the upgrade worked.

The post-install runs for long time calculating disk quotas. Longer if there a lot of data on disk.

I did the upgrade 2 nights ago on a Celly 800 with 256 MB of Ram and a 12.5 GB HD that had 9 GB full. It took me 15 minutes from boot to finish and It was done. I also upgraded a P 166 with 64MB of ram and a 20GB HD that had 18 GB full and the Post config hung for about 6 or 7 minutes but I let it go and it went through fine.

Both machines are humming and I haven't had the slightest problem yet.
