Title: subnets
Post by: David on February 08, 2001, 04:47:08 AM
We are implementing a new server for our company, and here is the problem I have. I would like it to be e-smith,but we will have 3 subnets. Can samba be easily modified to provide file and print sharing to 192.168.0 and 192.168.1 and 192.168.2? I have read the samba howto, and from what I can gather, it has to be a WINS server. Can that be easily done with e-smith? What files would be modified? The administration want to be able to open network neighborhood and see 3 workgroups (one per subnet, which happen to be different locations) Does this require more than one machine?

Sorry for the newbie question, and thanks for any info.

Yes - add the other networks via the Local Networks panel in the e-smith
web manager.

Yes - Samba is configured as a WINS server.

This should all happen automatically.

A server appears in one workgroup. Browsing multiple workgroups is "fun" :-)
