Title: Strange behaviour with remote access
Post by: torsten on February 01, 2002, 11:30:34 AM
Hello,

from my internal Network I use Internet Explorer 5 from a
Windows machine to access the Server-Manager via https.
Yesterday I enabled Remote Access by following the steps
in the howto (http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/remote-mgr-access-howto.html).

I tried this from my computer at work with Internet Explorer 5.5.
The warning for the certificate is shown as usual. After I hit
OK I was expecting to get the login-box shown but that does
not happen.
The following error is displayed:

Authorization Required
This server could not verify that you are authorized to access the document requested. Either you supplied the wrong credentials (e.g., bad password), or your browser doesn't understand how to supply the credentials required.

I tried it with Opera 5.02 with which it works just fine.
Opera says it's using TLS v 1.0 128bit encryption so I checked
the IE options. TLS 1.0 is enabled and the info-box of IE says
it can handle 128bit encryption.

Can anyone help me to understand this?

Thank you.

upgrade to at least IE5.5. The version you are using has documented SSL problems.

Hello Mahmood,

the strange thing about it is that it works with IE 5.0
but with IE 5.5 it doesn't.
