I would appreciate if someone can answer/clarify the following questions. I am using e-smith 4.1 beta 3, with the gateway and server configuration.
The first configuration screen asks for a domain. And it says it has to be “real”…. Is this domain only visible to the local network? Would I disturb someone on the Internet if I use, for example, thisisatest.test as my domain?
I am able to define virtual domains, and they work fine when accessed from the local network. My question is if I can “see” the virtual domains from the Internet… If I own several domain names, and If the e-smith DNS records are published, would I be able to host multiple web pages, email, ftp for each one of my domains in the server, so I can access them (email, ftp) from anywhere in the internet?
Thanks a lot,

That depends.

No.

They are not. The e-smith server and gateway software does no public DNS publishing, and does not partake in domain registration. You can read about name registration processes at, for example, http://coverage.cnet.com/Content/Features/Howto/Domain.
You should speak to your ISP or your local e-smith reseller for assistance in registering and publishing DNS information for your various virtual domains.
