Title: IT/HelpDesk software
Post by: jeff C on February 15, 2002, 12:03:30 AM
Has anyone had a good experience with a particular helpdesk app?

I'd like it to run in ani-bay, web-based, simple interface for end-user.

TIA,

-jeff

I use PHPTickets. Very simple but runs great.

I wouldn't mind trying out that Helpdesk module you advised about (phpHelpDesk).

I'm new at using e-Smith and love it but ! I'm a bit unsure about whether or not installing things like this can do any damage etc. From what I can tell e-Smiths is not a straight Linux dist, but has templates etc that get edited.

Could you shed some light on what I can and cannot (or shouldn't) do with my e-Smiths install.

I must say that I'm very impressed with it. Two days ago I got a CD of SME and installed it to play around. A day later our FreeBSD box blew up and I decided to install e-Smiths on an old machine we had - and up she went. Squid/Samba/Mail  -piece of cake - I'm impressed.

cheers,

Adam

Hi!

You might be interested in my opensource trouble ticketing system, RT.   It's in use at thousands of sites around the world and folks generally seem pretty happy with it. You can find out more about it from http://www.bestpractical.com/rt/

Adam, one of the reason's I stick with PHP on E-smth, is because of the ease, and you don't really have to "do" anything to the server. Just create an ibay, drop in your code, bang out a database, and you're off to the races. :-)

Obviously there is a little more than that involved, but you get the point.

Jesse, I'll be happy to tale a look at it, always looking for good open source projects.

Jesse,

I went and looked at your app. Could you please tell me about it on SME?

I noticed "make" in your docs. As I'm sure you are aware, that is not included with SME. How about a quick down nd dirty requirements and how-to on SME, or does it exist and I scanned too quick to notice? Thanks

As it stands, it's a standard unix package that would require a bit of work to install on SME. (though I have done it).  I've been talking to folks about the right way to make it a trivial
installation on SMEServer and hope to have something usable
within a few months.

Be sure to enable dynamic content in the ibay.  That's the usual cause of this error.
