Title: Blocking webserver
Post by: Paul van Dun on February 15, 2002, 02:45:26 PM
Hello E-Smithers,

Is it possible to disable the webserver, fileserver feature in E-Smith so it only acts as a gateway and fileserver for my network.
This because the cable-host provider scans for servers running on their network and blocks them, so is it possible to make the webserver, fileserver part invisible for the the hostingprovider so they think it's a workstation logging in to their network.

Best regards,

Which version are you using? If you are using 5.1.2 then you can go through the config and when you get the the option "Select Operation mode" you can set it to private (If you want to have an intanet site for your people) Or you can select server only if you don't want to use the web portion at all.

This not what I mean I want to make the webserver invisible for my ISP because it's forbidden to run a server on their network.
But I still want to use the gateway option in E-smith, to share my cablemodem.

Is this possible in 5.12 ?

Best Regards

Install it as "Private Server and Gateway", the webserver will still work inside your lan (Intranet) but will not respond to requests on the external interface (Internet).

Right, like I said you can set it to private, but people on your intranet will still be able to pull up pages.
