Can you/Could you install e-smith on a Sun Microsystems server?

Curious.

I think not because e-smith only runs on x86 arch systems.

Have been offered a very cheap, new Sun Server... Dont really know how to use it. Thought e-smith would simplify the running.

I know it was a stupid question, but youlll never know if you never ask...

Thanx.

yes.. the only stupid questions, are the ones never ask!

There are several Linux distributions for sparc machines. As far i know also RedHat and SuSE have one on their FTP servers. I tried a SuSE distri on my Sparcstation 10 last year, it runs well and fast enough for some small services.

E-Smith basically is a (excellent) modified RedHat Distribution, but only supports I386/586 systems. In theory it is possible doing the same under every linux machine, installing a base RedHat on sparc and then compiling repacking every E-Smith related package.. but it would be a project for sleepless people with a big time frame left i guess.
