Title: Error in printing to netowrk attached printers
Post by: Caleb Jeffries on February 16, 2001, 03:32:02 AM
Hello. I have a small network with a network attached printer (HP Laserjet 4M Plus). I have used the e-smith interface to set up a network printer, and have specified its IP, and RAW setting. My goal is to spool print jobs from each client over the network to the server, then from the server to the actual printer. I do not want to print directly to the printer.

I install the printer through network neighbourhood and install the drivers. The problem is when I try a test print I get the following message:

"Test page failed to print.Would you like to view the print troubleshooter for assistance? The filename, directory name, or volume lable syntax is incorrect."

Anybody know what is wrong? What further things do I have to configure?

Below is a summry of what I have set up.

Server (printsrv)
----------------------
Printer name on e-smith: hp4mp
Network IP: 192.168.253.52
Type: RAW

Client:
--------
Port client is set to print to: \printsrv\hp4mp
Type: LAN Manager Printer Port

I had this problem with e-smith 4.1 beta 3 but after upgrading my installation to the released e-smith version 4.1 the printer just worked fine (without me having to change anything)...
