The latest version is actually 5.1.2. Let's get back on topic. Anyone have any success with the OnStream drives? I have heard and read that they do not work well out of the box on Linux.

They do not work well in any OS and the media is very expensive.  The best bet on long run is DAT and media is cheap

You might also look into DLT.  Media isn't as cheap as for DAT, but DLT seems to have a better reputation for reliability (which is the whole point).
