I'd like to hear from those with experience in upgrading from SME 5.0 U3 to SME 5.1.2.
Has everything gone smoothly?
Is the system backup/restore not overwriting anything new implemented in SME 5.1.2.
Also, has anyone noticed how SME 5.1.2 ISO is MUCH SMALLER than SME 5.0 ISO?
I would like to hear from you guys before attempting the upgrade.
Comments appreciated.

Yes, it went smoothly. Didn't need to backup/restore; no data was lost in the upgrade. Yes, the ISO is smaller; haven't bothered to check the filelists to see what's different.

Didn't work very well for me. It crashed under the upgrade, right before it was to start copy files.
Did instead a clean install, and manually configured it and copied all data. So now it's working.

I upgraded from 4.1.2 to 5.1.2
No problems except my external IP changed (I am on DHCP cable connection) and Mitel server did not seem to want to see that the IP had changed.
had to run a command to update the new IP throughout the system
sorry but I cannot find the command in the forums right now :(

Upgraded from 4.12 -> 5.0 -> 5.12
- Accessing the console through Putty takes a long time before password can be entered
- Samba part seems slow, logon to the SME as PDC takes a while
- Restoring Network connections is takes a while
- Have to logoff and logon again to get it right.

I gave up on the 5.1.2 installation.
We had numerous problems, printers that were unavailable, we couldnt ping from outside through the VPN to boxes on the inside, You would get disconnected from the vpn randomly, I could remote control my desktop XP box then disconnect and it would not re connect. Trying to connect with putty from an internal box would result in a wait of 60-90 seconds to get the password prompt after entering the logon name, 98se or XP would take 1-2 mins to run the login script and there was a wait of 1-2 mins to open a folder and then sometimes you would be able to browse immediatly and other yet another wait.
I grabbed a new hard disk and installed 5.0 updated it with the blades (I must say the 5.12 blades interface is much better) and restored the data and its running the way it should.
I'll wait till I see more reports of success before I try again, I have wasted over a week and suffered a lot of frustration and down time.
After happily running a 4.12 server with next to no problems for 12 months I was very disapointed.

Have you created a report for the bugs@e-smith.com address? From the severity of what you've noted, it would be worth doing. I've upgraded successfully (a restore problem notwithstanding) and I know that others have too.

Yes, I sent an email to bugs.
I should point out I really like the e-smith server, I'm just disapointed with my experience of 5.12.

I tested a system with my server at the office running 4.12 and the VPN works great. I upgraded the customer server from 5 to 5.12 and the VPN have problems with printing disk access etc. I am glad it is not me
