Title: software raid and cdrom drives.
Post by: Keith S. Austin on March 05, 2002, 09:24:32 AM
I just picked up an old 4 Cdrom SCSI2 enclosure including 4 4x drives ($20) and a thought occurred to me, Can I use Software Raid 1 Mirroring on these Cdrom Drives?  Furthermore how hard would it be to burn my website onto 4 Cd's and change my Primary I-Bay to the Raid Array with the 4 Cdrom Drives.   Is this possible?  I really don't think I need it, but if it's possible, I may learn something from the process.

Any Help or info appreciated.

the would be VERY slow. seek times on CDROMS are way slower than on harddisk.

Ya, I realize it would be slowwwww, but I'm just wondering if it can be done.   I'm also thinking of trying to use it as an MP3 server for my home network.  Still waiting on a PCI SCSI card though. Currently using an old AHA-1520B for testing on another computer.
