I have an 4.12 E-Smith server. I am running Windows 2000 Pro as my workstation. When I try to run a program located on the server (WS_FTP for example) it either takes 20 seconds to load or it just sits at the splash screen. Would this be an E-Smith problem or Windows 2000 problem. I have noticed in Windows 98 or ME that this does not happen, so I'm guessing it may be related to Windows 2000. What do any of you think? Thanks.

Matt,
Based on my own experience when running ACT! locally on a Win2k machine, but grabbing data that was on a ESSG 4.1.2 server - it is an issue with Samba and file locking/access across the network.
The version of Samba in 4.1.2 is like 2.0.7 I think...and you need 2.2.1a or later. I'd recommend that you run an upgrade to the latest SME v5.1.2 and see if that fixes your problems. My bet - it will.
Let us know, and good luck.
Regards,
Patrick

I am currently running Samba Version 2.2.1a. I had to upgrade to get Windows 2000 to logon to the domain. Is 2.2.1a included in SME 5.1.2? Is there more to the SME upgrade that might help this problem then just going to Samba 2.2.1a?

Any other thoughts to this problem? Thanks.
