Could someone please let me know how I can setup a VPN on SME. It seems I need a VPN client. I have looked in my network properties and cannot find a PPTP protocol to install.
The SME configuration is reasonably clear, but on the Windows side I could use some help.
Thanks,

You have to install the VPN adaptor. There are detailed instructions here:

That should do it.

Why not try google?

I have a similar problem. Actually, I am not sure how to set up SME.
I have the NTL cable with E-Smith as a gateway.
I have installed the VPN module.
Now, how can I connect from the outside (say a basic internet dial up connection) out the VPN ?
What I don't really understand is the following:
Local Client IP
|
Local SME Server Internal IP
Local SME Server External IP
|
Local Gateway
|
INTERNET
|
Remote Gateway
|
Remote SME Server External IP
Remote SME Server Internal IP
|
Remote Client IP
In my situation, what is what ? I mean I connect to the Internet via a dial-up connection, get a dynamic IP, don't have a Remote SME server ....
Can someone explain the problem (if there is one !) ?
Thanks.

It should be just like setting up a dial-up-networking connection but you pick 'VPN' instead. You need to have Service Pack 2 installed to work with the SMEserver version.

All I really want to do is be able to have an iBay setup as a shared drive so that files in it are easily accesible just as if they were on a local network accessed via a Windows share.
Anyone want to tell me the best and most elegant way of doing this.... ie... What do I need on both ends...
Thanks in advance...

Windows XP Prof has an built in VPN client that works fine with E-smith.
