Title: Servernames and domains
Post by: Thomas on February 21, 2001, 02:22:58 PM
I am connecting my e-smith server via CABLE modem, using dynamic ip. This is working great and I can access my “company web page” from the internet.(using dyndns.org)
But what is “best practice” concerning domains names and server names in this scenario? My cable provider is on a domain named mycableprovider.no and my external nic gets a hostname like customber234.mycableprovider.no from DHCP.  What domain and name should I use for my e-smith server? I believe that myserver.mycableprovider.no I is correct, but then e-smith generates names like www.mycableprovider.no http://www.mycableprovider.no and ftp.mycableprovider.no and this does not look right. I also have several domains hosted with www.easyspace.com but the only integration I am hoping for (without paying :-) is to use multidrop.
