Title: user account names containing underscore or dot is not permi
Post by: ananthraman on March 20, 2002, 08:44:18 PM
Hi

When we were using e-smith 5.0 , we used to have users with firstname_lastname or firstname.lastname as the account name when we used to create users.
with 5.1.2 we cannot create user account names with firstname_lastname or firstname.lastname as we need to have firstname_lastname@xyz.com email id

Pl let me know if you have any solution for this.

regards

From the manual:
http://www.e-smith.org/docs/manual/5.1/admin-useraccounts.html

When you create a user, it automatically takes the First and Last names and creates 2 pseudonyms, one in the form of "First.Last" and another in the form "First_Last".

Hope this answer's your question.

I too have just encountered this problem whilst trialing 5.1.2. To retain compatibility with a remote NT Server we connect to over PPTP, we need to retain the firstname_lastname convention on our internal LAN. Previously we could achieve this by entering the user's "real" firstname as an initial to avoid conflict with the aliases and it all worked OK.

Can anyone tell me how the underscore can be used again in 5.1.2 please.

Many thanks.

Derek.
