Title: IPSec VPN and network printers
Post by: Walid Moghrabi on April 08, 2002, 02:16:08 PM
Hi,

My site A and B are connected via a IPSEC VPN via adsl.
I have static network printers in site B.
I can ping these printers from site B without any problem.

I can ping any computer defined on site B from site A even if these computers are using static IP (my network is organized by a DHCP server)
But, I can't ping my network printers from site A.

It does the same for routers.

So here is the question : Why ?

Any clue ?

Thanks.

I'm guessing its because the printers do not have a default gateway defined.  The traffic is actually hitting the printers but the printers do not know how to get back.

Have you tried printing to the printers ??  It will probably work

What does "it does the same for routers" mean ??  You can NOT
ping from router to router ????

This is definitely a problem with the printers not knowing about the network at site A. Make the esmith box, with the IPSEC vpn configed on it, the default gateway for the printers and it should work

and

if you cannot ping it...you will not be able to print to it
