Has anyone written an RPM for this install? I have installed the driver many times on different machines and all works OK and the how-to's are very good (many thanks to those people).
It would be very nice to install an RPM then goto admin-config server and have it as an option.......
I am positive that anyone that writes such a RPM will be a GOD in the eyes of us poor UK ADSL BT custermers....hehe
Can anyone give me any pointers on how to write and compile an RPM and what files I may need? modem_run, mgmt.o, template files, etc.
I have also had request for a panel to add cron jobs....any around?
Many thanks in advance for any help given...

Speak to Alcatel. An important part of the driver is not open source, and does not come with a license from Alcatel to redistribute it. AFAIK the only way that you can get it is to get it from Alcatel, after you provide them with some marketing information.
Yes, all the other bits and pieces can be rolled into an RPM, but without that vital bit it will still be a bit tedious to get up and running.

which guide did you use?

Tom folllow this link you will have to adapt it a little to get it to work on SME 5.1.2 and on earlier versions you may need to compile HDLC support..
