Ok, we are busy evaluating SME as a Internet platform and have some minor challenges. The major hurdle I see to full deployment of SME is the ability to act as a mail server. Specifically the following issues:
1) ability to relay SMTP mail from other networks.... pop before SMTP will probably solve this.
2) address rewriting for virtual domains.... is there any way for Qmail to do this ? I know that is fundamentally the antithesis of Qmail's design but certainly someone has managed to work around this... or are we just asking too much of SME? (ie: client uses pop before SMTP to allow SME to act as their primary SMTP server but wants their from address to be correctly displayed in outgoing mail).
Thanks,
Darrin

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the problem, but I think there's a user-submitted HOWTO on this. Check out http://www.myezserver.com/downloads/mitel/howto/vdomain-alias-howto.html and see if it solves your problem.
I'm new to SME as well, and also evaluating -- this fix has allowed outbound mail to look like it's going out properly.
The problem on my end has been proper DNS configuration -- but I won't bore you with the details. :)

Hi,
I have been trying to do a simple (in sendmail) address rewrite. I have a user with a mail address that is 13 characters long. The SME interface refuses it. I tried editing some of the username files to add it in as a fixed address rewrite. Now we can't see the users or the ldap inforamtoin at all. I have reverted all entries changed to as they were but something is corrupt.
So outcome is don't try address rewriting from the backend. I am probably going to reinstall and then put up a machine running sendmail so I can get useful usernames etc, but keep the SME for the web/ibay environments.
