Title: Download mail from a different e-mail server
Post by: Jay Douglas on May 05, 2002, 10:40:53 PM
Greetings.
I have a client that is running an E-Smith Server (ver 4.x) in the gateway/server configuration.  They do not currently host a domain or use the qmail software to send or receive mail.  This is what they would like to do:

They want the E-Smith machine to go to their mail server and download each users e-mail.  They would then like an anti-virus software to scan the e-mail.  I am aware of the RAV software and don't mind making the purchase, I was just wondering if E-Smith could work with a different e-mail server in the way I want it to.

Thanks for your time.

Hello Jay

How about using fetch mail to download the mails from the another mailserver that way they could fetch mails from many servers to get clients e-mails. Then use RAV to scan those mails to be sure they aren't infected by any virus or troijans.

I my self use fetchmail and i'm very pleased to how it's work.

Hi Jay,

I use Vincent's multi-pop fetchmail add on to collect mail from multiple e-mail accounts. It works very well for my purpose.

Eerikki and Kelvin:
Thanks for the suggestions.  I think that fetchmail is going to be a great solution.
