Title: Mapping to E-smith
Post by: ddik28 on May 17, 2002, 10:34:57 AM
I have successfully hooked up my E-smith box, but with one problem.  I have two computers running on it right now and the only one that recognizes it as a shared server is the one with Windows ME.  The other computer is running win2k.

I can type in my ip address and access it via the web, I can ping it using DOS, but I can't find it through windows explorer(network neighborhood), on the win 2k box.

Any help??

Try upgrading to the latest samba to see if it fixes your problems. It helped the network reliability problems I had.

The reason that you cannot see the SNME box from win 2k is usually that win2K does not enable netbios over tcpip by default. The way that you enable this is to
Right click my network places on the desktop and click on properties.
Select the lan connection that you are using and right click on this and again select properties.
Select tcpip and click on properties, click on advanced and then go to the wins tab  and then click on the radio button that says enable netbios over tcpip. After closing everything you should now be able to see the SME box on the network.
