hi there,
tried changing the custom template for squid by uncommenting the dns_children tag and setting it to a higher number.
after expanding the template and restarting squid i get this error:
parseConfigFile: line 591 unrecognized: 'dns_children 25'
i would very much like to increase the dns_children from the default 5 as i do have a lot of users online at the same time and have thought that perhaps this could be slowing down their access.
any ideas?

Option not available, squid is built with internal dns support
squid has a great tool to monitor performances, cachemgr.cgi
Put it into a protected cgi-bin dir and have a look at the stats.
I think you will find that you don't need to tweak dns usage.

Thanks Filippo for the reply - very helpful.
Can't get the cgi script to give any useful info though.
Just give me pictures from 2 sites that have been accessed.

I can't understand.
After you have filled the form you should get a menu like this:

Callback Data Registry Contents
Event Queue
Async IO Function Counters
DISKD Stats
Current Squid Configuration (hidden).
comm_incoming() stats
IP Cache Stats and Contents
FQDN Cache Stats and Contents

This Cachemanager Menu
Shut Down the Squid Process (hidden).
Toggle offline_mode setting (hidden).
