Does anyone know of a sample database application set up that is easy for E-smith?

I am trying to make my first web database application and am having trouble.

What are you trying to install?
Have you setup phpMyAdmin?

phpmyadmin is setup.

I just want to figure out how to set up a simple database application

1.) post to the database
2.) Retrieve images from the database
3.) Set up e-mail blasts from dbase
etc.  Basic stuff.
