Title: oscommerce -admin security
Post by: JC on June 03, 2002, 07:18:41 PM
I have installed oscommerce CVS 2.2 snapshop on the primary Ibay and seems to work very well (http:\www.akilinet.com). I will like to install admin module (backend) on a different ibay for security. Please could someone assist me with a howto  to set the admin on another ibay. Your assistance will be appreciated.

Thx

JC

I hadn't thought about that - is there a huge security risk with having your admin dir be: akilinet.com/admin with a .htaccess file in the admin root?

Check out: turquoisevillage.com - a live store using TEP on SME 5.1.2

Also, where is your catalog?

Did it take much to set this up?
Could you post a quick How To?

Thanks

I installed the catalog under documentroot /home/e-smith/files/primary/html/. And I been trying to install the admin into another Ibay for extra security. I finally got it working by first installing under the root and then moved it to another ibay /ibay/html/admin and hacking admin/configure.php for the FS & WS DIR path to point to the ibay. Now I keep getting Certificate error under ie 6.0 when I try to register as new customer or to secure area.
Your store looks great and As far .htaccess, it provides weak security. refer to dev forum ((http://www.mail-archive.com/devinfo@lists.e-smith.org/msg08862.html).
I working on oscommerce howto for sme 512/5.5 beta9.

Thx
