Getting Compaq's JUMPSTART CD really helps setting up MILO....

The hardest part of getting this up on my alpha was figuring out how to load MILO from a boot floppy.

Once I got that straight, the rest was easy. The problem was that I was unsure. Using AlphaBios, this worked for me;

Turn the machine on
Hit F2 to enter setup
Choose Utilities then OS Selection Setup

Hit to create a new entry; I entered the following:

Boot Name:   Linux Floppy
Boot File:      A:      \linload.exe
OS Path:      Disk 0, Partition 1   \
OS Options:

Press then F10 Save Changes

I was under the impression that "OS Path" should have allowed me to choose "A:" as I had in "Boot File". The important part of this line is the "\".

Once this entry was completed, all you do is choose "Linux Floppy" at the prompt and MILO fires right up.

From there on the HOWTO was easy to follow...

I LOVE MY ALPHA!!!!

Thanks Chaloner,
I was unaware of the existence of that particular flavor of BIOS emulation. I have updated the Alpha-HOWTO to include a link to the AlphaBIOS-HOWTO.
