Title: User accounts
Post by: René on June 11, 2002, 12:22:37 AM
Hi

I have a fresh installed SME 5.1.2 with Blade 1. On the server I have installed the following things:
- Software RAID1
- Tapeware 6.2 Sp5B (HP SureStore DAT 24i)
- System monitor
- AWstats Web statistics

well so far is all o.k. But now I would like to create any user accounts. I have decided to use the format with a period, for example (James Bond, j.bond). But the server-manager returns an error like this:

"Operation status report"
Error: unexpected characters in account name: "j.bond". The account name should contain only lower-case letters, numbers, and hyphens, and should start with a lower-case letter. For example "betty", "hjohnson", and "mary-jane" are all valid account names, but "3friends", "John Smith" and "henry_miller" are not.

Now I could not understand why this error message appears. This because I have setup a second SME 5.1.2 Blade 1, and there this is no problem. What is wrong with the first one?

Could anyone help me?

For assistance thanks in advance
René

Hi Terry

Yes, I really can't use a period (.) in a username!

I get the message that I posted in the first message.

Do you have any ideas?

Hi Jeroen,

well I think that's not a normal behaviour. This because on my other SME server there is no problem to set up accounts in the format like j.bond (with a period). Have you already tested it on your box?

Thanks for more information

Title: Re: User accounts - 5.0 vs 5.1.2
Post by: René on June 15, 2002, 06:57:44 PM
Hi

I have compared this topic between a fresh installed SME 5.0 and an upgraded/fresh installed SME 5.1.2, then I saw the following difference:

- SME 5.0
I did a fresh install, then I could install all blades for the Version 5.0 then I had no problems to create accountnames with a period (.) in the accountname. All works fine.

- SME 5.1.2
first I did an upgrade from version 5.0 blade 4 to version 5.1.2 (with CD) and I could not anymore setup accountnames with a period in it.

second I make a fresh 5.1.2 install and I could also not setup accountnames with a period.

Now what is the difference between the two versions for the setting up new accounts? Should I do any changes in the V5.1.2 to setup accountnames like I want.

Could anyone help me?

Thanks in advance
René
