Post by: Byte on June 12, 2002, 10:14:01 PM
Hi can anyone help me i backup my data bout 24Gb's worth onto a tape Scsi in version 4.1.2.

Then once i install a fresh copy of sme 5.1.2 the latest copy i go via webadmin and restore from there and i get following error

Content-type: text/html
Software error:
Closing rpm query failed: No child processes -1 at /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/esmith/util.pm line 157.
For help, please send mail to the webmaster (admin@myvillage.com), giving this error message and the time and date of the error.

The backup really sucks and I don't trust it...

Ted, thanks so much for the well-thought-out and informative reply.

Byte, it looks like there might be a problem with the installation of the e-smith-release RPM, but that's based on just a quick look at the util.pm file.  I'd expect there should be some information in Apache's error log file.

I have had this problem and I put it down to the fact that I was trying to restore a 4.1.2 backup on a 5.1.2 machine.

Restored data from command line.
