Title: Installing 5.1.2 with CDRom
Post by: Paulo on June 15, 2002, 10:57:20 PM
Hi,

I can't get the installation to start. I burned the ISO into a CDR. Booted from it, but it gives errors about missing dirs ...

Tried to create a bootdisk (boot.img), and after booting, I point to the CDRom and it asks for a driver ? Where will I get this driver for a standard ATAPI Cdrom ??

Tried creating another bootdisk (cdboot.img) and it gives the same errors as if booting from the CDRom: "couldn't find Kickstart file /tmp/ks.cfg"

Any ideas anyone ??

Thanks in advance.

I would try downloading the ISO again and put it on a different CD.

Hi,

I've done that ! I downloaded once again (3rd time), checked md5sum and burned it. I have now 3 exact copies of the same ... I got 2 for sale ... any takers ??

Here's everything I have already tried:
   - Set up CD-ROM drive on other IDE
   - Change Master to Slave (n CableSelect)
   - Set up another CD-ROM drive n repeat procedure (Master/Slaver/Secondary/Primary IDE)
   - Messed around with the ks.cfg params (removed boot=lilo ...)

Any other ideas ?

TIA

Does the CD-ROM drive respond at all? Is it on some weird controller? Are you sure you were able to boot from CD-ROM, 'cause it sounds to me like the installer can't find the drive at all. BTW, to boot from floppy you need boot.img, not cdboot.img.
If indeed the problem is that the installer can't find your CD-ROM drive, feed it a drivers floppy (from drivers.img) and see if that fixes it.
If it did boot from CD-ROM and then gave errors, it looks like something is wrong with the CD-ROM. If you got a good iso, you got a good iso, no need to download it three times. But maybe the CDR is crappy, or your burning software has a problem w/ iso images.

Hi,

thanks for you help.

I tried with a different drive (the 3rd one) and it came out fine. Somehow, having it as a slave on Secondary IDE (and the only device on the bus) was causing troubles, although I could still boot with it !!

Anyway, thanks !!
