Title: Segmentation fault with insmod osst
Post by: Gerard Mokkenstorm on July 19, 2002, 12:29:37 AM
hi all,

I just made a fresh install of SME 5.5
The only thing i changed was the workgroup name
no blades, no rpms...

following Kelvin's howto for installing the onstream tapedrive i updated the osst.o file, gave it exactly the same rights as the original one

but when i ' insmod osst' i simply get an 'Segmentation fault'

anybody know whats going wrong or wat i am doing wrong ?

The server setup is:
PII350MMX
64Mb
Maxtor 20GB HDD
40x IDE cdrom
DI30 Onstream drive

In addition to above:

searching for an explanation or solution, i searched the onstream site...

There is something mentioned about specifying the position of the drive on the IDE bus before compiling...

Does it matter where the drive is ?

I have mine on secondary channel slave....

( ill probally try to change that if my downgrade to 5.1.2. does not work.....

I would make sure you have it as the master on what ever channel you want to use.  That is where I have had the most luck.

Nahh, didn't help

i tries all possible combinations....

5.1.2 and 5.5, both slave and master..

I recon its a hardware thing.... trying to swap server hardware tomorrow.....
maybe better luck....

thanks anyway....

Just a thought, you might want to update the firmware on the drive.

As I was putting together the following HowTo, I remembered that I did update my firmware a while ago.  It might help this issue.  Just a thought.

nope...

I have a DI30 Fast and there are no firmware revisions available fot this model
it is having revision 4.11

I saw on the linux pages at www.onstream.com a update to 4.12 but only available for the linux updater...and thats my problem...

i have to get it to work first an then update.....but it wont work.....
keeps on giving segmentation fault.....

still on it...

I don't think you have to overcome the segmentation fault to update the firmware.

You might just try it with out it.
