Title: IMAP and Mail Subfolders
Post by: Andy Taylor on July 29, 2002, 02:39:59 PM
I have been looking in thease forums for a while on how to sert out IMAP and its apparent inability to create mail subfolders.

One suggestion was to drop in a replacement IMAP server.. I don't really want to do that since I want to have hastle free upgrades etc..

Well I managed to find a work around that works great for me..

Login to a mailbox you  want to have folders in with IMP (webmail)

create a sent-items folder (or any other you want to have).

Now use your IMAP client (outlook in my case)
open the IMAP folders dialogue (right click on the IMAP parent and click IMAP folders in the case of outlook)

subscribe to the "Mail/Sent-Items" folder.

Now you have a subfolder called "Mail" to wich you can add more subfolders / e-mail and this works fine.

Not only that, but they all show up in IMP (webmail) also.

Great..

hope that helps those who had similar problems..

You need to set your root folder path to Mail in Outlook.

I use the Mozilla client to create whatever sub folders I need. these are under the mail folder and appear just fine in Mozilla. I have had problems using Outlook express or Outlook with these folders. I manage to access my mailbox from several locations using both Mozilla and IMP 3.0 . The only problem I do have is with the sent items folder not being consistent across all apps but I have given up worrying about that. It will even work with the mail filters as well which I cannot get a m$soft product to do.
