Some time after updating to SME 5.1.2, we needed to create a user account and have that user access iBays. When I created the user I got an error "Error while creating user ". It hadn't joined the groups properly.
So I went to the groups panel in the server manager, and tried to add the user to the group. I get an error "Error occurred while updating group." every time I try.
Surely there's something simple I've missed?
Cheers for any responses,
Greg.
PS: Searched the forum for the error message (and parts of it), to no avail. I would have thought someone had experienced this before, and dealt with it! (perhaps not, I guess)

I have a similar problem after adding a new user post 5.1.2 upgrade. When I add the user to a group I get a "Software Error" heading with text indicating the user was not added. Is this the same as what you are getting? Oddly the view e-smith has of the groups is not the same as the groups file in the /etc folder. Anyway, I have logged the issue with e-smith support but have not had a human response as of of yet (paid customer). Let me know if this is the same problem you are suffering.

I too am getting exactly this problem after and upgrade to v5.1.2 from v4. An older post with a similar problem after upgrading to v5.0 suggested creating a blank file /etc/aliases to fix the problem. I have done this but it does not appear to work (although I have not rebooted the system yet to see if one is needed).
I would be keen for an answer also, otherwise it looks like a complete rebuild is necessary.

Has anyone an answer to this, since I have run in to the same thing...

Jesper,
It seems that there is no fix for it. You must rebuild the server from scratch - something I've been working up to for months now, but haven't had the time. Besides, I'm kinda waiting for 5.6 - kernel 2.4 and a journalling file system!
Regards,
Greg.
