Hi all!
My intention is to install the oracle client files in a sme 5.5. Since the installer of oracle needs xwindows, I like to know if somebody has tried it and that has obtained.
Later it would de-install xwindows, since, in sme they do not serve for anything
; -).
Thanks.

This is just an idea, but I seem to remember Oracle 8.1.6 having a "silent install" feature. You might look in to that. After that you should have a basic install and you could manually configure the configurations (listner.ora, tnsnames.ora etc.) after that. Do you have access to http://technet.oracle.com?
Also, you might want to check rpmfind.net and search for Oracle init scripts. I think I remember seeing those out there as well. (i.e. SysV init scripts)
Yes, they are still there. Check out:
http://rpmfind.net//linux/RPM/rhcontrib/7.2/i386/oraclerun9i-1.0-1.i386.html
Good luck!!!
Be sure to factor an Oracle cold backup into the e-smith backup routine, otherwise you probably won't be able to rely on the e-smith backup to restore your database.
Please report back! I would love to know how this goes!!!
