Title: Changing ftp port
Post by: theKiyote on August 17, 2002, 10:36:25 AM
I am looking at changing the port setting on the ftp server from 21 to a less obvious number.  Is there anyway I can do this?

Im sorry, but looking through the forums, I see a lot of information on forwarding a port from the server to another server on the inside lan, but what im looking for is a way for the server itself to recognize another port as the ftp port.

I saw some information on port opening, is this what i need to do?  I couldnt check up on it because the link to the port opening rpm was broken

what would you mean with less obvious?? If someone does a port scan then even this less obvious port will show up as open.

I do not believe that changing the port will secure your site better.

There are internal privacy issues im looking at.  I prefer making my ftp server as hard to find as possable.  While port scanning remains a weakness, I prefer to cut down as many risks as possable
