Title: Snort doesent't start
Post by: Matthias J. Lang on August 21, 2002, 07:39:19 AM
I installed snort on my sme 5.1.2. everytime i want snort getting started (on startup, too) it aborts starting with the messsge "./snortrc not found" (rules file). the rueles are located in /etc/snort and the path to the rules is correctly set in /etc/snort/snort.conf. When I copy a rules file to /root and rename it to snortrc, the rules are found, but snort doesent't start becauese it says, that no ip's for the rules are specified. can anyone help?

Do your use a dynamic IP ? (DSL or so ...).
I´ve installed snort on serveral 5.x servers without problems, but all with fixed IP´s.
